SNMP Support (in Beta)
Simple Network Management Protocol (or SNMP for short) allows devices to speak a common language when connecting to a centralised management platform, such as HP Openview, or one of the many satellite network management platforms. The initial release of SNMP support delivers basic trap generation when significant events occur. The Vocality unit - with SNMP activated - acts as an SNMP Agent. From Wikipedia : The simple network management protocol (SNMP) forms part of the internet protocol suite as defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). More specifically, it is a Layer 7 or Application Layer protocol that is used by network management systems for monitoring network-attached devices for conditions that warrant administrative attention.
There are different versions of SNMP available. Vocality supports SNMPv2c as well as the more advanced SNMPv3 - with authentication and privacy (encryption). Full configuration capabilities are planned for 2008.
