Management Team
Vocality is a privately held organisation, whose principle shareholders are Julian Bashford and Martin Saunders.
Julian Bashford, Chief Executive Officer
After a short lived education in Food Technology, and after being an accomplished musician over many years, Julian switched to a career in technology. He began in electronics with a hands-on position as an engineer working with protocol analysers and early laptops. By age 20, he headed a team of 9 installation engineers, running training courses and installation of electronic banking systems for modem and mux supplier, Tricom. Moving to Saber Software (later acquired by McAfee) in his early 20s, he progressed through a number of roles before moving into sales of network management and security software. McAfee was itself acquired by Network Associates in 1995. Julian set up Vocality later that year to market products from the likes of Sosoft and DTM in Germany. A technology enthusiast, Julian never fails to be excited about new technology and capabilities that Vocality will bring to market. Julian has two sons in a house dominated by electronics, Star Wars and Lego. [LinkedIn Profile - Email]
Martin Saunders, Chief Technical Officer
Martin graduated from Imperial College, London (BSc Physics, 1981) with an abiding fascination for electronics and joined Racal-Decca in Surrey as a graduate electronics engineer. Here he gained valuable experience in the field of digital hardware and software systems design, which led to several Queens Awards for innovation and export and promotion to Principal Engineer before leaving to join Qualtech, at age 25, as Senior Designer. From here, he followed two directors who left Qualtech to start their own business, a specialist in the design of voice/data multiplexers. Martin was appointed to lead the design and architecture for their portfolio of products in this new and exciting field. He was responsible for the concepts behind a number of telecoms products which became industry icons, some of which were adopted by Dowty, Case and Black Box as key products in their range. In 1990, he decided to go into business alone, and in 1994, in partnership with Nigel Ottley, formed Sosoft Ltd, a vehicle from which to design and manufacture his own products. Sosoft developed and sold its first hardware solution, Cantata, a single voice codec, in 1995 and achieved its first sales of a statistical multiplexer, Sonata, in 1996 through Vocality.
Vocality International was formed in 1999, when Martin and Julian came together to form Vocality International.
Senior Management Team
In Vocality, the strength of the company comes through the talents of the people it employs. Leading each section of Vocality's organisation are department heads, who form the Senior Management Team. Martin Saunders is the Head of R&D, and the rest of the Senior Management Team are outlined below.
Simon Ascott, Head of Technical Services
Simon leads the technical services group for Vocality International, which is responsible for pre-sales engineering, post sales support, consulting services and training worldwide. Simon has an MBA and also an MSc in Satellite Communications and is a Chartered Engineer with the IET.
Alex Keyse, Head of European Sales
Having spent the last 13 years selling technology communications solutions to Telco's and large Enterprises, Alex joined Vocality in January 2009 with a remit to head up the European sales team. With this mandate, Alex is responsible for growing both new and existing customers, as well as spearheading Vocality's corporate wide services initiative. A key element of this is the development of new, industry specific solutions to enable Vocality to offer portable, secure communications to Government and Military agencies. In his spare time, Alex has a passion for yacht racing and skiing. Alex resides in Newbury with his wife Sam and 6 year old son, Oliver.
