Launch of BASICS IP Router - PC104 Board

Surrey UK ; Vocality International today announced it has significantly increased its proposition to the defense and mobility markets with the international launch of BASICS IP Router.

This device is a PC104 form factor unit, offering an upgrade route from legacy PC104 based routers to a single board solution incorporating a bridge/router, TCP accelerator, PoE four port switch and satcom link optimization.

BASICS IP is positioned as the new de facto, next generation solution for mobility routing within Defense applications, within space and power restricted environments – ideal for integration into third party integrated defense communications kits.

Instead  of utilizing commercial components, BASICS IP is a -40 to +74degrees C industrial grade board, wrapped in an aluminum heat jacket, delivered as an OEM kit for integration into tactical communications and networking kits, typically for federal users.

Evaluation boards are available from Vocality in USA, UK or Australia. Visit www.vocality.com

RTP Compression

Vocality has introduced a new feature to the mainstream BASICS and PRO product functionality. It is a technique for optimising bandwidth and quality of RTP traffic, which is particularly effective when used for VoIP over satellite-based. The technique combines four elements to produce a VoIP transport mechanism that is uniquely optimized for bandwidth efficiency and quality across Vocality networks.

Benefits include Bandwidth Savings and Quality improvement for all RTP traffic including VoIP.

The next production release of software will contain the Software Maintenance scheme, VLAN and support for the new BASICS IP and BASICS Four Wire platform. It will be REL06_01.01

Vocality introduces VLAN Software Feature Key providing support on Vocality router devices for Virtual LANs.

Support for IEEE802.1Q VLAN tagging has been added to the Vocality router and multiplexer software.

An Ethernet interface may be configured for VLAN operation by specifying the VLAN or VLANs that are supported on that physical interface and then allowing configuration of IP router and/or bridge ports over that VLAN.  Any configuration options that are possible on the existing ENET interfaces shall be extended to allow operation on the VLAN interfaces.

This function allows users to create multiple Layer 2 networks within their deployed network, whilst sharing a single common router – in this case, the Vocality router. This means that a remote site for a defence application could have one VLAN for logistics, one for Welfare and so on – all co-existing on the same router.

The next production release of software will contain the Software Maintenance scheme, VLAN and support for the new BASICS IP and BASICS Four Wire platform. It will be REL06_01.01 The feature is not supported in the Ethernet Module 68054 / 68154.

Further Details

VLAN software functionality is automatically available on the high end router platforms, High Speed CPU Card and BASICS IP. In all other router devices, it is activated via a Software Feature Key.

Bob Otten

We have just heard that our friend, Bob Otten, who was our very first person in Vocality Inc. has passed away. There were never any "averages" with Bob. He was one of a kind and the world is less colourful without Bob in it today.

Our thoughts are with Patti and his family.
