Company Background

Welcome to this brief introduction to Vocality. If there is any information you would like to receive about the organisation such as financial, ownership or forward plans, please contact Julian Bashford.

Introduction to Vocality

Founded in 1995, the early days of Vocality saw the organisation delivering statistical multiplexers and other communications devices primarily to the European satellite industry, and over the following years, it became more and more specialised in the tactical and satcom market segment.

Vocality is privately owned, with its principle manufacturing and R&D activities taking place within the UK, but with strong links to the key embedded software and security specialist manufacturers in the United States. The organisation has consistently invested in new technology design, allowing it to compete successfully with the large router manufacturers. As a result of this commitment to investment in new capabilities, the products have become the standard choice for many of the world’s most demanding communications operators, whilst Vocality has an enviable range of capabilities and intellectual property that benefits the tactical and commercial users alike.

The organisation’s Chief Executive Officer is Julian Bashford, who founded Vocality at the age of 24. The organisation merged with Sosoft in 1999. Their Chief Technical Officer, Martin Saunders leads the R&D efforts to this day. Recently joining Vocality, Susan Harvey is the CFO heading up both finance and operational activities within the group.

Lydling Farm

Early Vocality locations include a barn owned by a member of rock band, Jethro Tull! Whilst it may not be to the extend of Google's head quarters, Vocality prides itself in being positioned in an inspiring location, surrounded by pristine English countryside. Vocality moved to Lydling Barn in 2001, following the renovation of the farm building. The photo gallery below charts the progress of the barn renovation. Vocality occupies all three buildings, with Barn One - the main building - housing sales, technical and R&D facilities. Barn Two is a final assembly and administration building, whilst the third building is our training barn.

US Space Heritage

Fine examples of legacy satellite and space electronics, are on display at the excellent Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Dulles Airport - a must for visitors to Vocality Inc. in Herndon.

The museum, an extension of the Smithsonian in Washington DC, provides a strong reminder of the advances that satellite and space technology has taken over the past decades, with early communications systems on display through to mars rover prototypes.
