Early Products
Vocality has been developing products under one name or another for
well over a decade. Here are some of our products of which we are
very proud.
Sonata
Originally designed as the Sonata Statistical Multiplexer - a
traditional data only multiplexer - the Sonata was soon redesigned
as an 8 voice port multiplexer, with 8 voice fax ports, 9 sync data
ports and 16 async ports. This was our first full multiplexer
product, and soon became a very well used product particularly in
the UK satellite communications industry, with users including the
BBC and the Ministry of Defence. The Sonata was first released in
1996, and final units were sold in 1999 following the merger of
Sosoft and Vocality - with the label being changed to reflect the
new company name.
Cantata
The Cantata started life as a product called the AV6496, and was
also available as "the Solo" but ultimately, it was just a very
simple device - one proprietary voice codec and one serial data
port, operating over an async or sync tributary. This important
first product for Sosoft/Vocality was released in 1996 and was
ultimately phased out when the proprietary codec concept was
replaced with ITU standards for voice compression.
