Vocality and Comtech

Comtech's EF Data division manufacturers some of the worlds most respected satellite modems - for military and mission critical applications. A large number of Vocality's users deploy using Comtech SCPC modems. However, Vipersat - another property of Comtech - offers a dynamic, bandwidth on demand system. The Vipersat product offers the ability to provide a slow speed TDMA network, delivering a few Kbps to each site. When a Vocality device on the back of the Comtech satellite modem needs a 'chunk' of bandwidth, the Vocality device can activate the Vipersat system to raise the link and assign the bandwidth to that site. This is ideal for military and broadcasters' comms networks which may be on some of the time, but not all.

Benefits that Vocality offers the Vipersat User

Like all IP-based systems, Vocality's compounded efficiency benefits Vipersat users too. As you add more voice channels to the first voice circuit, the users see significant bandwidth efficiencies.

Vocality's range of units offer modified software to interact correctly with the Vipersat system, when requesting an SCPC channel (ie. max QoS) and the channel becoming available. In this way, phone calls are kept open reliably whilst the modems are transitioning.

If required, Vocality equipment has the ability to manipulate the packet handling through user variable packet and buffer sizes to overcome issues such as network jitter.

Vocality equipment can flag the TOS bits to match any parameter required by the network.

Finally, the Vocality units would be used in a Vipersat network is the user wanted access to the following types of service:
  • Multiple Voice Circuits (2 Wire, 4 Wire, E1/T1, SIP-Based VoIP)
  • ISDN Extension
  • Serial Data Channels
  • Accelerated Network Routers (with Inbuilt PEP)
