SNMP Support (in Beta)

Simple Network Management Protocol (or SNMP for short) allows devices to speak a common language when connecting to a centralised management platform, such as HP Openview, or one of the many satellite network management platforms.

From Wikipedia : The simple network management protocol (SNMP) forms part of the internet protocol suite as defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). More specifically, it is a Layer 7 or Application Layer protocol that is used by network management systems for monitoring network-attached devices for conditions that warrant administrative attention.

The initial release of SNMP support delivers basic trap generation when significant events occur. The Vocality unit - with SNMP activated - acts as an SNMP Agent.

There are different versions of SNMP available. Vocality supports SNMPv2c as well as the more advanced SNMPv3 - with authentication and privacy (encryption). Full configuration capabilities are planned for 2008.
