Comparisons Between V50 and the new V50plus
Vocality International has launched the V50plus in order to provide improved product capabilities to our customers and users. The V50plus offers a strong range of features from launch. Additional features are planned and will be introduced during coming months.Vocality is continuing to supply the V50 for applications which can not be currently supported by the V50plus. Here is a summary of the applications.
- STU IIB Applications (Secure Voice)
- STU III over ISDN Application
- Multi-Channel over ISDN Application
Chassis
The original V50 was over 1U high. The V50plus is exactly 1U high, occupying 13% less volumetric space than the V50. This decrease in space is made even more interesting, because V50plus has double the number of ports. The V50plus, like others in the current range, uses the new locking mini-din connector for M&C. The power connector is also a locking socket which gives users the comfort of knowing that if they install the V50plus inside a case or flyaway, the ports will not become disconnected through vibration or accidental pulling of the cables.
Voice Ports
The V50 supports a maximum of 8 voice circuits - 4 of which could be configured as 4 wire, and all 8 could be used as 2 wire circuits. Devices had to be purchased as either FXS or FXO, but they could not be combined in one unit. The V50plus has two option slots, each supporting 8 voice circuits (again with 4 wire on the bottom 4 ports), so now a maximum of 16 phone circuits can be installed in a V50plus chassis. Users can select FXS or FXO as they need. Like the V50, the increase from 4 to 8 ports on each card is Feature Key driven.Router Ports
The original V50 delivered just a single 10/100 base-T port, but in this day of IP aggregates for use over BGAN, IP-base satellite modems and the like, multiple Ethernet ports are required so users can operate aggregate and tributary services through two ports. Vocality will shortly deliver dual stack functionality to allow two completely independent routers to operate within the one chassis - ideal for multiple network connections. The Ethernet ports in the V50plus support VoIP (SIP Gateway), PEP (TCP Acceleration) and SNMP functionality.ISDN
The V50 currently supports an integrated ISDN Terminal Adapter for connection to terrestrial ISDN or Inmarsat. This feature has yet to be migrated to the V50plus.STU Secure Voice
The V50 supports the "legacy" STU III (US DoD) and STU IIB (NATO) secure voice capability. Only 4 circuits could be STU enabled in the V50 (and indeed, the V100 Voice Card). Vocality's new SVR Card (Secure Voice Relay) delivers STU III support on all voice ports, whichever the model - both analogue and digital. That means that whereas a V50 could previously support 4 channels of STU enabled voice, the V50plus now supports 16 STU enabled voice ports. Currently, the legacy and current STU cards are not compatible. Contact Vocality for more information.Overall, the V50plus presents a major step forward in capability, and over the coming few months as other functionality is released onto the new platform, it will certainly become the flyaway and mobile multiplexer/router of choice for military, broadcasting and satellite operators.
