High Speed CPU Card

High Speed CPU Card

The V200 and V150 need a CPU card in order to function. There is a choice of two CPU cards - the High Speed and the Standard CPU Card. Both cards offer their own benefits.

Primarily, the High Speed CPU Card is required in a V200 chassis, and is optional in a V150 chassis. When used in slot zero of a V200, the High Speed CPU Card acts as the system manager, delivering M&C, firmware storage and operation, log storage as well as integrated multiplexer and router functions delivered through two integrated Ethernet ports and one serial data port.

Another High Speed CPU Card may be inserted into a V200 chassis, and assigned as a redundant CPU card. This card monitors the operation of the first CPU card and takes over operation if it detects that the active Slot 0 card has failed.

Data Capabilities

The card includes a multi-protocol serial data port capable of 10Mbps operation, two 10/100/1000Mbps triple-speed Gigabit Ethernet ports, and an integrated dynamic IP router with DHCP server, bridging and PEP TCP acceleration built in as standard. It also provides a serial Management & Control (M&C) port, an Alarm port and an Alert push button for (manually) invoking the hot-swap feature. Two LEDs indicate the status of the CPU card.

Other CPU cards may be present in a chassis as regular line cards using the single data port, two 10/100/1000BT Ethernet ports and integrated IPv4 router with the first CPU card acting as the "management" card.

Compact FLASH

All of the configurations, application software and the firmware for each card installed in the V200 chassis is stored on the compact FLASH located on the CPU card. This makes it easier to upgrade the software and the firmware on cards and guarantees cards of the same type are running identical software, ensuring that disaster recovery can be achieved by simply removing the compact FLASH card and replacing it with a new pre-programmed one.
